An extensive 60-day cruise circling the Land Down Under is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been trekking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship departed without her and went back later that day after the personnel realised the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and earlier engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".

Officials also issued an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a directive to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the liner in the port city upon its return.

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was just two days into the voyage at the point of the senior passenger's death. Lizard Island was the first stop on the voyage.

Travelers on board - who generally pay substantial amounts of money to take part in the voyage - were transported there for a daily excursion with the option of walking or snorkeling.

The child of the elderly passenger said that her loved ones was "shocked and saddened that the vessel left Lizard Island after an planned excursion without my mum".

Via her announcement, she characterized her mother as an "energetic elderly person" who was a participant of a walking group.

"Based on limited information we have been provided, it seems that there was a lapse of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She continued that she hoped the investigation would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have done that might have preserved Mother's being".
